Dear Squad friends
When we announced our crowdfunding campaign on Republic Europe recently, we also received quite a number of questions on the progress of the Squad's development. This inspired us to share with you what we've been working on and how it will ultimately benefit the Squad community. So here we go.
Today, we are taking you on a small tour of the Squad chassis and assembly concept.

Squad Mobility production stories:
the assembly
At Squad Mobility, the way we work is in line with our mission: affordable and sustainable mobility for all. From the start, we’ve worked with a first-principles mentality. Looking at a problem from a fundamental point of view and reasoning from the ground up. We also study a situation in a holistic way. Meaning, not just the Squad car, but how it exists afterwards and how it is before it’s assembled. Making the parts, how parts travel, to which locations. And going further, we look at it from a community perspective. Who assembles the Squads, how are they distributed, and even further, how are they maintained throughout their lifecycle.
Let’s start with our tubular chassis
Our engineers are working on a visible tubular chassis concept, using extrusion profiles and combining functionalities as much as possible. The advantage of a tubular chassis concept vs the stamped chassis of many other vehicles is the flexibility of the production. Stamping tooling requires significant investment and is therefore better suitable for centralized production. Our goal is to improve the possibility to localize sourcing and manufacturing.
Assembly sequence
To put things in perspective, a current standard assembly sequence in automotive typically begins with stamping the body and chassis. Then, spot welding everything together, resulting in the body in white. Then paint, remove the doors, fit everything inside the body, and put the doors back on at the end.

Inside first
Squad uses what we call, an inside-out assembly. As the term suggests, assembly begins from the inside: floor, battery, seating. Then we assemble the surrounding chassis, finish the bodywork, apply the glazing and install the solar panel. Starting with the fundamentals and working our way outwards. No repeats.
